In 2024, the refugee crisis has reached new heights, with millions of people fleeing war, violence, and economic instability. Conflicts in regions like Sudan and Gaza have driven an unprecedented number of people from their homes, leading to humanitarian disasters. The United Nations estimates that over 25 million people in Sudan alone are currently facing a food crisis, with displaced families struggling to access basic resources(UNNews).
The Impact of Conflict on Refugees
War continues to be a leading cause of displacement. In Gaza, more than half the population is at risk of severe food insecurity as the ongoing conflict destroys infrastructure and disrupts food supplies (UNNews). Refugee camps in neighboring countries, such as Chad, are overwhelmed, struggling to meet the basic needs of the displaced.
The situation in Sudan is similarly dire. The conflict has not only displaced millions but also led to widespread hunger, with many internally displaced people (IDP) camps facing food shortages. The United Nations reports that Sudanese refugees are among the most vulnerable, with children and women disproportionately affected (UNNews).
